The Procedure
Posterior Capsule opacification (abbreviated as PCO) is a rather common occurrence following Cataract Surgery.
During Cataract Surgery your Surgeon has to intentionally leave behind a clear Part of your lens called a Capsule. This Capsule acts as a scaffold to hold in place the new Artificial lens in your eye.
Over time the Capsule loses its clarity and gets frosted, hindering light from entering your eye. This adversely affects your vision. The reduction in your vision depends on the severity of the frosted Capsule.
The treatment of choice for treating PCO is to clear the centre part of the frosted Capsule using a precisely focused YAG laser beam.
For this you need:
- The best Yag Laser machine
- An expert Eye Surgeon.
- Good local backup to address any post laser concerns.
We provide all 3 of the above at Laser Eye Wales.
The procedure is painless and takes a few minutes in a sitting position in front of the laser Machine.
In almost all cases this procedure is needed only once in your lifetime per eye and with no need to be repeated.
The aim is to improve your vision by allowing unhindered entry of light into your eye. If there are other problems in your eye like macular degeneration, glaucoma, or indeed any other eye problems then you are unlikely to get the full benefit of this procedure.
